I suffer from a rather extreme facial deformity. A mutation in my IRF6 gene (which stands for Interfon Regulatory Factor 6) caused me to be born with a cleft lip, unusual teeth, and a flattened nose. (Scarsbrook, The Monkeyface Chronicles, page#13)

Unlike Grum and Grunt, who are identical twins, Michael and I are the non-identical fraternal kind. This is a fortunate thing for Michael. Unlike me, he has an architecturally perfect face; sky blue eyes, wavy dark hair, strong cheekbones, square jaw, and a straight, chiseled nose. He is strong, smart, kind and handsome. (Scarsbrook, The Monkeyface Chronicles 14)

The main character in this book is Phillip Skyler. I am only partway into this book, but so far the characteristic that fits the main character is insecure. He is judged by a number of people due to his facial deformity. He also is compared to his twin brother Michael, who is described to be perfect. I think the outcome of this character will be that he is going to be happy with the way he is; he is going to ignore all the people who have judged him and worry about what he thinks of himself.

Here is a music video that relates to the term insecure. The song is called "Don't Laugh At Me" by Mark Wills. The song is all about being judged, and the person telling them to stop; which is basically what Phillip is going through.

"Grum circles behind me, and Grunt shoves me hard, causing me to trip backward over Grant's outstretched leg. Grum kneels on my arm and drops his butt in my face, then Grunt straddles my legs, singing, Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, you look like a monkey, and you smell like one, too! Other kids circle around. Some of them join the song. ONE! Grunt shouts, punching me in the ribs. TWO! I get one in the stomach. THREE! FOUR! FIVE! Almost half-way now. Soon it will be over. I clench my teeth. I will not reward them with tears." (Richard Scarsbrook, The Monkeyface Chronicles, page#21)

Based on this part is describing the bullying that is occuring, it reminds me of the song Stand Up by Vanessa Morgan and the Latest Buzz Cast. In the book The Monkeyface Chronicles, Phillip Skyler, is getting judged, bullyed and also abused based on his appearence, which isn't fair, and this song is explaining how people do get judged easily, and due to that they get hurt physically and mentally. The song is explaining how you should stand up for people who are in need, and not to just watch it happen and not do anything about it, like some of the lyrics are explaining in this song.

Therell be somedays when nothing goes right
You cant fix things with all your mind
But if you think you wont make it throught
Just know theres one thing you can do

Stand Up
And you can be, and youll find your strength with me
Stand Up
And face your fears, that stops you from being free
Stand Up

blog post # 2.

The book I'm reading is called The Monkeyface Chronicles written by Richard Scarsbrook. I haven't read the whole book yet, but so far I know it is a fiction book, about a grade 8 boy named Phillip Skyler, who unfortunatly is judged but a facial deformity he was born with. The name of the deformity is "Van der Woude syndrome" which causes Phillip to have a cleft lip, unusual teeth, and a flattened nose, resembling him to a monkey, hence the title The Monkeyface Chronicles. He also has a twin brother named Michael Skyler, with no deformities whatsoever. So far Phillip has gone through a great deal of trouble, from being beat up on the school yard, to an attempt of running away from home. Along with Phillip trying to blend in and not being treated differently, a romance is developing between Phillip and a girl named Adeline Brown, who is also not the most popular in this grade 8 class, this is all i have read so far.

This book is honestly very good so far, I love it! Its always leaving you wanting more, wanting to know what happens next. I can't wait to read the full book, I have so many questions waiting to be answered. The detail is very well done, I can imagine everything that is happening right in my head, everywhere he goes, all the characters, everything that's happening, I personally this is a great book.
